The Search Goes On For Agreement At COP26

There is still much to be decided at COP26. The summit is scheduled to finish on Friday but it seems likely it will run into the weekend. There is still hope that an agreement on policies to address climate change will be reached, but time is running out.

Nicola Sturgeon expresses the view that smaller countries like Scotland can have an important role in tackling climate change.

On a local level Councils will be expected to put measures in place to help the situation. There are many climate activists in Glasgow who will no doubt carry on their protests on a local level. It could be that people power will have a growing influence on policy.

Andy Burnham, Mayor of Manchester pointed out that change would only be effective if it took public opinion along so change needed to happen from the ground up.

One area where local Councils can have a say is in the transport systems around the country. About a third of our emissions comes from transport so improving public transport will play an important role. Whether it is with hydrogen powered trains or simply reducing the use of private cars, local public transport could be key.

It was noted that Boris Johnson arrived in Glasgow by train on his visit yesterday having suffered criticism for taking a private jet previously.
