Barack Obama, spoke at the COP26 Summit to highlight the need for urgency in dealing with the climate crisis.
He stated the obvious that it was disappointing that world leaders from India, China and Russia had chosen to not even attend.
Referring to the Paris Agreement struck in 2015, Obama told the COP26 summit that the agreement showed the world progress is possible on climate change. But, he said the bad news is that the world is “nowhere near where it needed to be” in tackling global warming yet. He criticized the Republican Party for the lack of action.
He did acknowledge that progress had been made since the Paris agreement was reached six years ago – but stressed that more difficult work lies ahead. The problems are clear that getting over 190 countries to agree to the details was always going to be difficult.
